January 31, 2025 - Solidifying his reputation as a production mastermind, Claptone unveils a phenomenal house flip of Chicane’s ‘Saltwater’. In celebration of the track’s 25th anniversary, the German DJ and producer transforms Chicane’s biggest hit into an intoxicating, club-ready take on the trance classic, setting the stage for a yearlong series of diverse, genre-blending remixes.
Released in 1999, Chicane’s ‘Saltwater’ is hailed as one of the most defining tracks of the late ‘90s trance scene. Built around a haunting vocal sample from Clannad’s ‘Theme from Harry’s Game’, the track blends ethereal Celtic elements with euphoric synths and driving rhythms for a captivating sonic soundscape. ‘Saltwater’ achieved global success, charting across Europe and becoming an Ibiza anthem, and cemented Chicane’s reputation as a pioneer of atmospheric electronic music. The track has since left an enduring legacy, influencing the next generation of producers and serving as a timeless reminder of the emotive power of trance music.
Now, Claptone breathes new life into the beloved classic, underscoring his unparalleled talent for reimagining timeless records across genres. Infused with his signature groove, the house aficionado’s remix retains the haunting beauty of the iconic trance anthem while weaving in crisp percussion, Balearic undertones and a deep, rolling bassline, creating a fresh yet nostalgic interpretation that serves as a testament to the track’s ability to stand the test of time.

Claptone emerged from the shadows around 2012. The enigmatic DJ and producer shrouded in a distinctive golden mask rose to fame ignited by the release of the hypnotic track ‘No Eyes’. This was swiftly followed by a string of chart-topping originals like 'Cream’‚ 'Wrong’ and 'Heartbeat’. With 'Before I Lose My Mind‘, ‘Under The Moon’ and ‘The Drums (Din Daa Daa)’ he solidified his position in the global electronic music scene.
Claptone's musical alchemy blends house, deep house, and tech house, crafting an infectious groove that resonates across a diverse audience. With three critically acclaimed albums - ‘Charmer’ (2015), ‘Fantast’ (2018), and ‘Closer’ (2021) - he seamlessly weaves soulful melodies with danceable beats, merging indie-pop with House Music. His collaborative genius shines through partnerships with icons like Seal and Barry Manilow, and rising stars such as James Vincent McMorrow, Nathan Nicholson or Peter Bjorn and John.
His remix prowess is equally legendary. Claptone's reimagining of Gregory Porter’s ‘Liquid Spirit’, Mark Ronson’s ‘Don’t Leave Me Lonely’, Mylo’s ‘Drop The Pressure’, Elton John and Dua Lipa’s ‘Cold Heart’, and Michael Kiwanuka’s ‘You Ain’t The Problem’ have garnered widespread acclaim, even earning a spot on Barack Obama’s 2021 Summer Playlist.
Behind his mysterious mask, Claptone's allure is undeniable, amplified by the success of his ‘The Masquerade’ events. These Venetian masked balls create a unique, immersive party atmosphere with elaborate decorations and theatrical experiences. From Los Angeles to London, Amsterdam to Mexico City, and beyond, Claptone's Masquerades have captivated audiences worldwide. The pinnacle of these events is perhaps the residences at Ibiza’s iconic Pacha and now Amnesia, featuring a star-studded lineup including Diplo, Jungle, John Summit, Purple Disco Machine, and Fatboy Slim.
Renowned for his dynamic live performances, Claptone's dedication has earned him prestigious awards, including being voted the Highest House DJ in DJ Mag's Top 100 DJs poll for 5 years in a row. With over 275 shows annually, he brings his electrifying sets to the world's biggest stages: Tomorrowland, Coachella, Rock in Rio, Creamfields, Ultra Music Festival, and many more.
Expanding his global influence, Claptone launched his own label, Golden Recordings. The label’s scorching Claptone singles, such as ‘The Big Easy’ and ‘Euphoria’, have amassed millions of streams. It’s a platform to celebrate house music’s golden era, featuring hits from friendly artists like Wh0, Crusy, CASSIMM, Yolanda Be Cool and many more.
Claptone’s ability to maintain anonymity while achieving global fame underscores his unique artistry and innovative conceptual approach. His blend of mystery, music, and performance art continues to enchant audiences worldwide, affirming his status as a standout figure in electronic music. Claptone remains a trailblazer, constantly pushing the boundaries of his craft and creating unforgettable experiences for his fans.
Chicane (Nick Bracegirdle) has been a mainstay in global electronic music culture since establishing himself with the seminal ‘Far From The Maddening Crowds’ in 1997. Following suit with breakout album ‘Behind The Sun’ in 2002 (and its Remastered Anniversary Package in 2020), LPs such as ‘Somersault’ in 2007 and ‘Giants’ and ‘Thousand Mile State’ in 2010, as well as 2015 album ‘The Sum Of Its Parts’, U.S. and U.K. #1 charting album ‘The Place You Can’t Remember, The Place You Can’t Forget’ (2018) and 2021’s ‘Everything We Had To Leave Behind’, the British dance music pioneer has fashioned a flawless, hit-filled album discography alongside an array of noteworthy singles spearheaded by his globally chart-topping single with Bryan Adams called ‘Don’t Give Up’.
Never one to cool or pander to the latest vibe, Chicane has worked with a host of eclectic artists over his twenty-plus-year career. The roll call of names is diverse and impressive, ranging from Bryan Adams, Sir Tom Jones, Natasha Bedingfield, Adam Young, Cher, Kate Walsh, Christian Burns, Paul Aiden and Lisa Gerrard to new and up-and-coming artists such as the Maltese singer Joseph Aquilina and Icelandic band Vigri. It all reflects on a strategy of not being pinned down in one place.
Born in Chalfont St. Giles, England, Nick Bracegirdle was very quickly acknowledged and applauded for supplying the chillout soundtrack to the seminal and – as some say – greatest Ibiza period, with 1997’s ‘Offshore’ and 2000’s ‘Saltwater’ becoming the aural backdrop to the Ibiza of sunsets and sunrises. There are, however, two sides to Chicane: the records and the live performance. Over the last fifteen years, the standard and excitement of the Chicane shows has grown and the live shows permeate the very essence of what Chicane is all about: people sharing a unifying moment together through music, no matter what age or culture they belong to.
Over the past twenty-two years, Chicane has played in every continent around the globe at legendary festivals such as Glastonbury, V Festival and Australia’s Stereosonic, all the while powering out hits such as ‘Offshore’, ‘Saltwater’, ‘Don't Give Up’, ‘Stoned in Love’ and ‘Poppiholla’, and juxtaposing them with the more esoteric and loved tracks from the eight studio albums he has released to date. Sun:Sets, Chicane’s award-nominated podcast and radio show that got its own mix album offshoot two years ago in the form of ‘Sun:Sets 2019’, has 10,000 downloads per day and is syndicated to over 76 radio stations with a reach of just under ten million listeners. A mixture of music, fun and gossip, the show is increasingly popular in the United States. In addition to all this, Chicane started a monthly online TV show halfway into 2019, which is available by subscription.
