August 11, 2023 - Indie, acid and super trippy, ‘You Knew’ came to life after the Mayan Warrior party in Tulum in early 2023. Yulia fell in love with the concept and created the record with a vision of the sound fitting seamlessly into the world-renowned event, paying homage to achieving her lifelong dream of playing on the iconic Burning Man staple. Especially fitting as the Mayan Warrior tragically burned down this year, ‘You Knew’ transports listeners back to Burning Man while simultaneously symbolizing Yulia's journey to artistic prowess.
The track is recorded in analog, using vintage synths and drum machines. Yulia experimented with a secret way of using a Roland SH-101 through a vintage TR-606 like a sequencer and a rare Oberheim OB-8 synth progression to create chords that are constantly changing and endlessly raising the energy, resulting in the one-of-a-kind sonic output. For the short vocal line, Yulia drew inspiration from old vinyl she picked up in New York on her way home after the party.
On the track, Yulia Niko said, “I’m super excited to release ‘You Knew’ on Armada Music. This track is a testament to how my sound is evolving, and I’m super grateful to Armada Music for believing in me and this new audial adventure I’m embarking on. So excited for everyone to hear it!”
