February 13, 2025 – Due to huge demand from fans, drum and bass talents 1991 and Subsonic have officially released their long-awaited rework of Ian van Dahl’s 1999 classic ‘Castles In The Sky’. Dropping today on Armada Music, this release follows months of dominating main stages at major festivals like Ultra, Tomorrowland and EDC Orlando in 2024.
Pairing Martine Theeuwen (aka Marsha)’s iconic vocal line with a dream-like reinterpretation of the original melody and the signature drum-and-bass elements that define both artists’ styles, this certified anthem—already supported by scene frontrunners like Sub Focus and Dimension—is primed to become a staple in drum-and-bass sets for years to come.
1991 said: “Two years on and ‘Castles in the Sky’ is finally being released! This collab has taken various forms and has been played out countless times over the past couple of years but it’s now ready to be put out into the world and we’re so happy that you all can finally listen to it in full.”
Subsonic added: “I was introduced to ‘Castles In The Sky’ growing up through my parents, it’s one of their favourites from the era and coincidentally, also one of mine. It's so good to see our spin on it finally released to the world.”
The release comes at an exciting time for British drum and bass artist 1991 who is coming off the back of headlining an Australia tour with Culture Shock. In addition to releasing original music, 1991 has earned a reputation for reimagining classics in his own style. ‘Castles In The Sky’ follows successful transformations of Supermode’s ‘Tell Me Why’ and Mason & Princess Superstar’s ‘Perfect (Exceeder)’—the latter played by Armin van Buuren during Ultra Miami 2024 and David Guetta at Tomorrowland. 1991 is a quarter of drum and bass supergroup WORSHIP who will headline the iconic Red Rocks later this year as the venue’s first drum and bass headliners.
