Friday, May 26, 2023 - Today, Nick Schilder releases his debut solo single ‘Shatterproof’ on Armada Music. After seventeen years and eleven number one albums as one-half of the Dutch singer songwriter duo Nick & Simon, Nick is now venturing forward on his own with this English-language track centered around the theme of human resilience.
Across his output, Nick Schilder will be connecting with unique songwriters from all over the world, a desire that stems from a long tradition of seeking out writing talent across the music spectrum. The starting point is "Shatterproof," a fresh blend of modern electronic pop and a timeless acoustic vocal. Nick created "Shatterproof" in collaboration with Rupert Blackman from the band Causes and songwriter/producer Toby Jacob, known for his work with Armin van Buuren.
In ‘Shatterproof’, Nick sings about an individual's strength in the face of hardship and how powerful it can be. For the record’s music video, Nick collaborated with the United Ukrainian Ballet, who sought refuge in the Netherlands. After hearing their stories, he drew a parallel between the dancers’ experience as artists during uncertain times and the theme of ‘Shatterproof’, and wanted to share these stories with the world. Filmed in the historic building of the Royal Conservatory in The Hague and directed by Katheryna Lesyk, the music video for ‘Shatterproof’ takes viewers on a visual journey of enormous perseverance and resilience in the face of hardship and serves as a powerful statement of pushing through when life is at its toughest.
On the record, Nick says "The song 'Shatterproof' emerged entirely from my subconscious. The melody flowed out effortlessly, and the lyrics accurately describe the emotions I have felt recently. The interpretation of the song by the United Ukrainian Ballet took it to another level, which deeply moved me. The combination of a singer-songwriter approach with electronic influences excited me.”
